Community College
The definition of what a Community College is differs from one country to another. In the United States, however, the term 'Community College' is used to identify an institution of higher education that primarily offers two-year degrees. In the 1970s, these colleges were often referred to as junior colleges, but today, the term 'junior college' refers to private institutions that also primarily offer 2 year courses. These educational institutions may also be referred to as technical colleges.
Why Choose This?
College tuition fees are rising, they have always been and will undoubtedly continue to do so. Unfortunately, for a lot of people a rise in tuition fees does translate to a rise in financial means. Most universities ask for tens of thousands of dollars for a year's worth of education in a 4 year or 5 year program. For a lot of people, this is just too much. This is where 'higher education' options come in.
Community Colleges are generally publicly run and are more affordable than their 'junior' counterparts are. This means that students who may not have enough money for a 4-year degree can opt for a more affordable 2-year degree and after graduation they have the option of furthering their studies. Community colleges are also great for students who may want to pursue a second degree.
After Community College
After attaining a two year degree from their community college of choice, graduates now have several choices. 1 - Join the workforce; 2 - Obtain a Bachelor's Degree; 3 - Do Both. One of the major benefits of attending a community college is that students graduate after two years. They get a diploma and this helps make them valid to join the workforce. On the other hand, students who are unable to complete a 4 year degree will be considered undergraduates.
After getting their associate degree, students can now choose to apply for a job or to continue their education and pursue bachelor's or a post graduate degree. Some students also find it more efficient to maneuver both activities at once by working during the day and studying during at night or during the weekend.
